Mom's Day & Dresser make over

It's been a great day, I even got a nap! Only two things could have made it better 1) JT not working all day and 2) family church time.

Isaiah and I have had so much fun together this weekend. I am truly one lucky momma!

We spent a lot of time at Hoglund Ballpark this weekend. Isaiah loves to be outside and loves baseball. Friday night I got to catch up with Andrea and Family they came to the game. So great to see them. So fun that I am pregnant at the same time as her and my other bestie Abbey. We are due around the same time Aug/Sept/Oct.
Matching mom is cool, right?
Zaya refused to look at the camera :) 5-10-13

Mother's Day 5/12/13

Today we were only there for 30 minutes (dang it for nap time start times) But I did get a mother's day picture. It's rare these days to get pictures of our moving 15 month old.

Morning shopping trip to Target with mom

Grammy and Zaya (kind of)
Zay and Uncle Jerry

We finished the dresser we found in someones trash. I was going to make it a bit more vintage, but wanted it to match the other furniture in our room so kept it classic and white. Still can't believe someone was throwing this out. It's perfect!

Scariest day of my life (so far)!

This morning I posted a Facebook status "Let not your heart be troubled...verse I need today hope it helps someone else too!" I posted this not knowing what laid ahead for our family.

Just yesterday and last night Isaiah was running, playing and acting totally normal. He was a tad fussy this am, but nothing that was alarming.

Our happy healthy boy at the KU vs. Baylor Baseball game 5/5/13
Today started as a normal (don't want to go to work) Monday. At drop off, Teri mentioned that Isaiah felt warm. I didn't even notice. She took his temp and it was 100. He has about 5 teeth trying to come in...I thought it was that. I told Teri to let me know if she thought he didn't feel well. I then left for work.

At 9:30, I text Teri to see how he was. She called immediately and said it was at 101 and that he seemed really tired so she was going to lay him down until I got there.

At 10:30, he awoke and I was on my way to pick him up. When I got to her driveway she was calling. I answered and said, I'm in your drive way. She frantically said "you need to get in here right away" My stomach fell to the floor and I immediately lost all feeling in my legs as I ran in. She informed me that she called 911 and that an ambulance was on the way. I took him from her arms and he was lifeless and very sick.

We went to LMH in the ambulance. His oxygen level was decreasing and they gave him some oxygen until we got to the hospital. I have NO IDEA how I held myself together on the outside. I've never hurt so bad or have been that worried in my life. I just kept telling Isaiah, "it's ok mommy's here" but in the back of my mind I was wondering if it was ok. Thank the Lord for his love and grace and always watching over us when we are worried.

The doctor explained that Isaiah had a febrile seizure due to his temperature. The highest it got was 103 which isn't that high really.

After chest x rays, blood cultures, ibuprofen and tylenol and a few hours at LMH we were released to go home.

Such a good dad/husband. We're SO LUCKY!

Buddy napping immediately after we got home
We got home and he ate a decent lunch and immediately went down for a nap. I will be watching his every move the rest of the night. SCARY SCARY! So blessed that nothing major was wrong.

Please keep him and us in your prayers. Mommy is still so sick about it and trying to be brave and not worry too much for #2.

Mother Nature...You're fired!

Thought I would do a quick recap of some Thornton/Kansas moments from the week.

Monday 4.29.13
Nearly 80 degrees and perfect. Nice day for a walk with sissy at lunchtime.

Tuesday 4.30.13
Left without telling JT goodbye in hopes that he could sleep in because he had to work baseball vs. Wichita State which meant he could go in late.

Our baby sitter lives by Amy, who owns "Amy's Attic" - I've found a couple of things in her "trash" pile before. I found a PERFECT dresser four our room. I've been looking on Craigs list for months for just the one I found for FREE. https://www.facebook.com/AmysAtticInteriorsAndAntiques SO I called and not only woke JT up but demanded he hurry to work to switch cars with me so he could get the dresser before someone else did. lol Poor guy! It literally is perfect just has one broken handle. We will paint and buy new knobs...One man's junk is my free treasure. YAY!

Before

To my surprise, JT returned my car cleaned and vacuumed with a post it I love you note on the dash. He does have a brother ladies :)

Wednesday 5.1.13
High 70's during the day and a major cool down at night. Off goes the air (that I swore I wouldn't turn on until mid may- not smart while pregnant so I caved) and on goes the heat. WHAT the heck?

Isaiah made a craft at daycare that made my day! I didn't capture a picture before when the flowers were alive, but you get the idea. AND I love lilacs. Love it so much I just bought a candle from Bath & Body called "Lilac Blossom."

Hung out with Isaiah solo...dad was working baseball.

Thursday 5.2.13
41 degrees with cold rain, ice and snow?? Making grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. nom nom nom! I love adding feta cheese to my tomato soup. If you like feta...try it!

Friday 5.3.13
No such thing as "Happy" Friday in athletics.

Work events this weekend, next weekend and cheer tryouts the 19th which I am excited and honored to judge again this year. Ready for baseball season to be over. Sorry Jayhawks you know I love you, I just love my family more!!

So many things coming up to look forward to. Mother's Day, gender reveal date, time with best friends: Andrea, Meryl, Abbey and Lacie all in the month of May. Busy/lucky me.

Adult Prom and Baby Dedication

We had a very eventful weekend. Finally a weekend that both of us had off (kind of) On Saturday night we attended the Rock Chalk Ball which was work related. I was semi dreading getting all dressed up with a baby bump and not being able to drink vino. It was a very fun time though, thankful to have been invited. Congrats to KUAA on raising a lot of money.

My sweet friend Brooke loaned me her dress so I didn't have to buy one.

18 week bump and my handsome man
Isaiah and I went to our little friend Jaris' 2nd birthday. He had a fireman party and it was SO CUTE! My friend Amber http://brettandamber.blogspot.com had some really fun decorating pieces and ordered a real firetruck. The kids were so cute and excited. Isaiah was a little unsure about his surrounding at first but eventually warmed up. I think he gets worried I'll leave him.

On the front of the truck :)

Today, Isaiah was dedicated at church. We attended a class at church to learn more about the meaning of baby dedication. After attending the class I was more sure than ever that Isaiah is God's child first, our child second. I've always loved the verse "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Prov. 22:6. I invited grandparents and my brother. We missed JT's mom but enjoyed having others be there for our special day.

Yes...I hand made invitations (so much cheaper that way)

My aunt Linda got him the most ADORABLE suit. So glad it fit him for today.

He's so fast now!

We love Pastor John!

Isaiah 14 months (#2 18 weeks)

JT is cleaning up from an afternoon of painting as I type. I did some edging but was more on baby duty. We are painting our upstairs hallway finally. I'll post pictures when it's done and pictures get hung (who knows when that will be)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

It's a girl?

I have been having crazy vivid dreams lately. This past weekend I dreamt of the day baby Thornton #2 was born... It was a she...she had lots of hair. I delivered in Hermosa Beach, California and my regular doctor was there. So strange, maybe that means I need a vacation to California?? I've been to Hermosa twice...once with my parents and once with my life long besties Abbey and Meryl. Both times we stayed at "The Beach House" http://www.beach-house.com/hermosa-beach-california-pictures.html

If you love California and love quaint little cities, you should check this place out. Can't wait to take JT there some day.

People have asked me if I have a feeling of what I am having...I have NO idea. I don't know how some women just know. Just because I've been more sick doesn't mean it's a girl.

I have to admit...If I could choose, I am leaning towards wanting another boy.  I would love for Isaiah to have a brother. I am scared to have a girl...Girls are usually dramatic and expensive :) I also think the bond that same sex siblings form can be pretty awesome. Boy or girl, we are excited and we'll know the evening of May 17th when we do our gender reveal date. Similar to what we did for Isaiah. Houston's...I can't wait to see you!

We've been so busy lately with work events my blog posts have been practically non existent. Spring time you would think isn't as busy, but there's still baseball/softball, spring football game, KU Relays. It's hard to focus at work somewhat...All I can think about is maternity leave and cuddling with my babe.

Another big upcoming weekend for us...JT and I will go to the Rock Chalk Ball on Saturday, then Isaiah is getting dedicated at church on Sunday followed by lunch. Hopefully all his grandparents can make it. I'll post pics sometime next week (hopefully)

Here are some Thornton lately shots...

Wish he'd keep a hat on...so cute!

This is the latest I have...I am now 17 weeks and quite a bit bigger :)

"New" Kitchen

I had a previous post about how my husband surprised me with a kitchen cabinet painting project when I was in Wichita one weekend visiting the bestie.  I LOVE white kitchen cabinets. Not sure why...Learning quickly that it's not smart to have anything white when you have a toddler in the house.

When we moved into our new house I absolutely loved the space in our kitchen and the floors. The cabinets and countertops were less than impressive in my mind. I knew someday we would redo countertops but had no idea a full CHEAP kitchen remodel was in our future.

I'd like to add that I also had no idea I married such a handiman. JT is getting so good at carrying out my visions :)

Here is our kitchen the day we closed on the house.
BEFORE

Here is our kitchen after: paint (Martha Stewart Living "Winters Day MSL269") new sink, new counter tops, painted cabinets, new light fixture about the sink and backsplash.

AFTER

Counter tops were $90. I was very skeptical about deciding to do countertops by ourselves, but having such a tight budget I figured I would take a leap of faith. I think it turned out good. We used http://www.gianigranite.com/ we ordered the "sicilian sand."

Close up of our "granite" :)

Pantry

Desk

We bought the backsplash from Home Depot for about $150 including adhesive and tools to cut.

The sink was $150 and the light fixture was $60.

Total we spent about $525 and doing it little by little made it affordable. Hoping this will make our home more appealing when we decide to sell it.

Thanks J for all your hard work...I am SO IMPRESSED!

What's a blog post without an Isaiah update...

Buddy is 14 months. He is walking and growing so fast. This video was captured last night at my dad and Kim's- Yesterday was Kim's Birthday. She's always so good to everyone on their birthday we all wanted to do something special for her. Of course boozing and grilling is special. :) Don't worry I didn't booze. Missed you Jerry!

Getting impossible to get him to be still for a picture

Group shot minus my brother, Jerry. :( Miss you bro!

I am now in my second trimester (15 weeks) and finally feeling better! Many have asked about the sex of #2. We don't know yet. Our sonogram will be around 20 weeks which is the 2nd week of May. Of course we will find out...people that ask me if we'll find out don't know me very well :)

Feeling so blessed and staying so busy with work, our toddler and trying to spend adequate time visiting family and friends when we have weekends off (which is still seldom) It's now baseball/softball season.

Until next time...

Eye for Basketball

It's the most wonderful time of the year (other than Christmas) NCAA Tourney begins today...Excited is an understatement.

Isaiah loves playing basketball. We bought him a basketball goal (but I failed) I thought surely this goal is adjustable, but it isn't.

So when dad doesn't lift him to score he sits at the bottom with the ball in his hands and cries. I really need to get it on video. He does offer some mean assists though :)

Nothing is more attractive than a dad playing with his son. We got so lucky! My only fear is that Mom is going to be uncool real soon :(

I am not sure who's having more fun in that video...dad or Zaya.

I did order him another goal last night on Amazon...love that website. He will go to town.
