No cake pop maker machine here...

Cake pop maker machines are all the rage now days. You can find a variety of "baby cake" machines at Kohls fairly cheap. http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/kitchen/top_brands/babycakes.jsp
While they are cute, easy and take half the effort, they are not nearly as yummy as old fashion cake balls.

I spent most of my day on Sunday baking Christmas treats. I only ate 3 pieces (okay 6) This year since we are short on cash, I decided I would do more baking as gifts.

Thanks to Pinterest, I found some pretty cute ideas as far as cookie canisters go. Found these wrapped Pringles cans that I had to try (pics below) I also found some pretty great treat boxes last year AFTER Christmas when everything was super on sale.

If you want to make cake balls this season, try to do make them sans machine if you want to fool the recipient into thinking you're an awesome baker :)

What I do

  • Bake cake as directed
  • Let cake cool for at least 30 minutes
  • Transfer cooled cake into a bowl
  • Melt frosting in microwave for about 25 seconds
  • Mix frosting and cake until cake is covered
  • Put in fridge over night
  • Using a melon scoop (to keep size consistent) scoop out a ball into your hand
  • Roll into a perfect ball, place on wax paper and stick in freezer for approx. 3 hours
  • Dip frozen cake ball into almond bark or your choice of chocolate coating
  • I usually drizzle a different color of chocolate over the top using a zip lock bag (cut a hole in the corner)

This tree box is so cute and was 25 cents :)

YUM!
I also made peanut butter rolo cookies and added some edible pearls to the top.

I just love these cans...
Isaiah loves Rolo's...I need to learn some self control when it comes to chocolate. This weekend marked 30 weeks. Only 2 months to go until we meet our sweet, ACTIVE boy!
