Stay Isaiah STAY!

Monday evening 12/11 I was experiencing some preterm labor symptoms. I am very private so I will spare some details. I was pretty certain I was having contractions. Because I've read it's completely normal to have Braxton Hicks contractions I tried not to worry too much. I would have been fine, but I was having some other symptoms so I thought I should call my doctor, which I did in the am.

My sweet doctor was out of town as it was her day out of the office. I talked with another nurse and she instructed me to go to LMH to get checked out. What? I am only 30 weeks...We're not ready!

I got to LMH (12/12/11) and didn't know where to go. Neither did the silly lady and man who worked the front counter at the hospital. Good thing it wasn't an emergency. They said it sounds like you need to go to radiology. WHAT? Geez people... :) Called back to my doctors office and they told me where to go.

To make a long day/story short-

After spending the day at LMH, I learned that I was indeed having real contractions and I also learned that I was 1/2 cm dilated. Both of which shouldn't be happening at 30 weeks. I was given some heart medicine that stop/lessen contractions which makes you light headed and gives you the worst headache. I was eventually sent home because the dilating wasn't progressing. THANK GOD! I was instructed to take it easy. Those words are so hard for a person like me. I am not good at relaxing, but I will do whatever it takes to keep Isaiah in there for as long as we can.

In a weird way, I feel better about the whole delivery process now that I have been to the birthing center and got a preview of what's to come. I was hooked up to a heart monitor for Isaiah and a contraction monitor. Isaiah's heart was strong the whole day. He was playing all day which made me so happy.

I also learned:

  • Free refills with the sweet LMH water mug they gave me (even though this will prob show up on my bill for at least $25 bucks)
  • The birthing suite gets ESPN :)
  • We need a feather bed for JT
  • Bring warm socks and my own pillow next time
Picture of the arm band for memory sake

Instructions which I have probably read 20 times

Think my hubby would like a few more inches on this bad boy

Had JT snap a wheel chair photo
For now we'll take it one day at a time. I know that God is in control and anything he throws our way we can handle. I have packed my bag somewhat for the hospital since this episode. Tomorrow 12/16 we get to have a sonogram to check up on our guy. Hopefully we get some good news.

This visit to the hospital I also was reassured about something I already know...I have the BEST husband. My mom says she "couldn't have hand picked a better mate for me" Love you JT!!

Can't wait to meet Isaiah, but not ready to meet him now. Stay in mommy's belly little man, we love you!

To brighten my week, I was featured in this week's edition of "Throwback Thursday" a feature that our Media Relations office does on kuathletics.com for former athletes. You can check out the story by clicking the link below. I was mis quoted a couple of times, but I am more than honored to have been given the chance to be interviewed.

  1. I'm glad he stayed in there and you got to go home! I had pre-term labor from about 19 weeks on, so I was on modified bedrest for most of my pregnancy. It was pitiful, but worth it since I got a healthy baby in the end!

Can't wait to see pictures of Isaiah, but I hope it's not for another six or seven weeks at least. :)
